Ride the gondola straight into the mountains. In under ten minutes you go from the village to Hemavan Viewpoint, 1,283 metres up, right at the start of the legendary Kungsleden trail. From here, choose between five marked hiking routes, from short family friendly walks past mountain tarns to the start of a longer trek north along Kungsleden, all set against sweeping views across Vindelfjällen, one of Europe’s largest protected wilderness areas. Whether you stay for an hour or a whole week, your mountain adventure starts here.
The journey to the top takes about 7 to 8 minutes, giving you time to rest your legs and watch the landscape unfold beneath you.
The world famous Kungsleden trail runs right next to the gondola’s top station, and there’s also a viewing point with seating, Hemavan Viewpoint, where you can enjoy a view that’s hard to put into words.
The gondola is open to hikers and bikers alike. Please note there are no dedicated bike trails, and all biking and hiking is done at your own risk. Tickets can be bought online or at the gondola’s base station. Dogs are of course welcome to rest their legs in the gondola too.
A child carrier backpack can be rented at the base station for 75 SEK per day, making it easy to bring even the youngest family members along.
About 400 metres below the top station you’ll find the architectural masterpiece Björk, Topprestaurang & Fjällbar, serving excellent lunch made with local ingredients all summer long. Note that there is no gondola access at Björk, you’ll need to return to the top station to ride down to the village. Björk is open 11am to 4pm whenever the gondola is open.
